Pirates Rally to Eke Out Win
Pittsburgh beat St. Louis at Busch Stadium, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to first baseman Chet Ross. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Vincent Prudhomme notched his 17th save in 19 chances. The win boosted Pittsburgh to 37-37.

Ross had a game-changing double in the top of the tenth. On a full count knuckle curve from J.J. Jones, he banged a run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Pirates a 4-3 lead. It was the 17th double of the year for Ross.

"To not win that game stings a little bit," said St. Louis manager Jim Vaughn.
