Reds Fall to Cardinals, 8-3
|
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 8-3, in Western Region action at Busch Stadium. Lucas Cavanaugh pulled his weight. The 7-year veteran was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Prospero González picked up the save, his 1st. At 45-31, the Cardinals claim first place in the Western Region Central Division.
Cavanaugh contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for St. Louis in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 3-1, Cavanaugh took a fastball from Roger Jenkins and stroked the home run to right. His 17th home run of the season allowed the Cardinals to leap in front, 4-3.
"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Cavanaugh told the St. Louis Today. "Whatever it takes."
