Pirates Lose, 3-2, at Wrigley Field
|
The Chicago Cubs took Pittsburgh pitcher Vicente Gaytan's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Wrigley Field. The final score had Chicago getting past the Pirates, 3-2. Gaytan went 6.2 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 9. Kelly Ange came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. The save went to Lawrence Dagley, number 13 for him.
Abdul Williams, who finished 5th in the WEST in on-base percentage with .381 in 2049, chipped in for Chicago with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 1 run batted in.
"Tough loss," said Pittsburgh manager Eddie Dolly. "But we'll learn from it."
Chicago is now 44-34, while Pittsburgh is 32-46.
