The Ventura Gulls beat the High Desert Mavericks by a score of 8-5. Ventura second baseman A.J. Leffler deserved the lion's share of the credit. Leffler went 2-3 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Gulls. Ventura pitcher Jonathan Wilson got the win. He's now 2-1. Alfonso Rivera was tagged with the loss. Delwyn Johnson recorded the save, his 6th.

Jon Hollinsworth went 1 for 3 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI for Ventura. The 25-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring walk off Alfonso Rivera. It was his 8th walk of the season.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Leffler.

The Gulls raised their record to 15-7.
