Riding the 4-hit performance of the 24-year old third baseman José Novo, the Ventura Gulls stopped the High Desert Mavericks, 8-2. Bobby Meyer picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-2. He struck out 7 in 5.1 innings. With the win, Ventura elevates its record to 16-7.
Helping the Ventura cause was Romulo González. In the bottom of the seventh, the 22-year old shortstop had a 3-run home run to make the score 8-2, Gulls.
Said losing manager Roberto Ortiz: "Give the Gulls credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."
