Yankees Wiggle Past Seattle, 7-6
|
The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners, 7-6, in Eastern Region action at Yankee Stadium. Lawrence Carla pulled his weight. The 12-year veteran went 1 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Ben Kessel, now 4-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. The first-place Yankees are 62-36.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth for New York. That's when Frank Prickett hit a solo home run off 25-year old right-handed pitcher David Schmalzried to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
"He who laughs last laughs best," Prickett said, postgame.
