6-4 Loss Extends Portland Skid
|
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Portland Hops, 6-4, in Eastern Region action at Comerica Park. Detroit pitcher Lou Clayton had a standout performance. Clayton, now 7-8, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 3 runs. Joshua Rusch closed it out for his 25th save.
The Tigers got a big at-bat from catcher Rob Hedrick. For the game, Hedrick was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Detroit a 6-3 lead.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Clayton told the Detroit Daily.
Detroit now sits in third place in the Eastern Region North Division at 55-44.
