Braves Trip Indians, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians, pitcher Thurston Hill was the difference between victory and defeat. The Atlanta right-hander earned kudos in the 3-1 Braves win. The winner was Hill. He threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was Elijah Jereb. Jasen Phillips recorded the save, making him 18 for 21.
Atlanta used the timely hitting of Sidell Bleecker to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Braves ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Thurston is good at sticking to his strengths," said Atlanta manager Ricardo Delgado.
With the win over Cleveland, the Braves improved to 53-52.
