Late Rally by Pirates Locks Up 3-1 Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates had to overcome a fine performance from Fresno pitcher Hunter Wade to grab a 3-1 win at Best Buy Ballpark. Wade allowed 1 run over 6.1 innings. Pittsburgh reliever B.J. Álvarez picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Mikel Rodriguez shouldered the loss. Pittsburgh is now 50-58, while Fresno is 53-55.
Had David Dudley not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Dudley hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Pirates.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Fresno skipper Prince Henderson, "and it cost us."
