Despite a great performance by Cincinnati first baseman Atlas Alvarado, the California Angels defeated the Reds by the score of 5-4 in 10 innings at Great American Ball Park. Alvarado was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The save was credited to Curtis Keegan, his 26th. The Angels improved their record to 52-56 by beating Cincinnati.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Greg Piper? The 30-year old catcher Piper stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put California up, 5-4. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.

"We didn't go down without a fight," said Cincinnati manager Jason Quinlan.
