Lunsford Lifts Pirates to 8-3 Triumph
|
Pittsburgh right fielder Jim Lunsford had 3 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Virginia Black Bears, 8-3. J.R. Thornock was the winner. Over 6 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. Rubin Morrison notched his 2nd save in 2 chances.
The Pirates got a big at-bat from shortstop Caleb Phillips. For the game, Phillips was 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 28th double of the season gave Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead.
"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Lunsford told the Pittsburgh Chronicle.
The win puts Pittsburgh at 59-50 this season.
