Pittsburgh Falters Again, Loses, 5-1, to New York
|
New York starter Mike Peck put the Pittsburgh offense in a vise grip. The left-hander relied heavily on his fastball in leading the Yankees to a 5-1 win. Peck, the winner, moves to 12-2. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 1 walk. The Pirates, now 43-74, have lost 6 in a row.
New York won the game in part because of Enzo Aponte. The designated hitter ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Yankees ahead, 2-0. For the game, Aponte had 1 double and 1 home run in 3 at-bats.
"The vibe's good," said New York manager Tony Medina. "We've got to keep it going."
