The home crowd had a good time watching the San Diego Padres and Houston Astros get after it.

The Houston Astros had no problem beating the San Diego Padres, 11-3, at Minute Maid Park. Austin Mitchell led the way. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 6 for Houston. Tony Simon finished to wrap up his 2nd save.

Bill Thyfault came through for Houston with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third. The right fielder went 3 for 5 for the game, including 1 home run and 2 doubles. He scored 1 run and collected 2 RBI.

"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Astros manager Norman Goguen, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."

With the win, the Astros sit at 77-54.
