The Detroit Tigers knocked off the New York Yankees, 5-1, in Eastern Region action at Yankee Stadium. Detroit pitcher and San Antonio, Texas, native Lee Freeman had an outstanding performance. The winning pitcher was Freeman, now 4-12. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 9. The win puts Detroit at 50-85.

Detroit used a well-timed hit by Mason Stapleton to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Tigers ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"Lee is a tough competitor," said Detroit manager Andrew Stowe.
