Giants Bury Mavericks, 15-1
|
The San Jose Giants got production from their entire lineup in an easy 15-1 win over the High Desert Mavericks. Doing his part was third baseman T.R. Halverson. Halverson, who is tied for 7th in the CAL in extra base hits with 15, was 4-4 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. J.R. Wingate, the winner, improved to 3-2. He held High Desert to no runs on 4 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. San Jose is now 16-21, High Desert 21-16.
The Giants got an important contribution from center fielder Ricky Castro, who in the bottom of the second punched a first pitch changeup into right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 9th double of the season and put the Giants ahead, 3-0.
"They thumped us around," said losing manager Roberto Ortiz.
