Giants Take Tight Tangle

Martinez got a terrific performance from pitcher Collin Sheppeard, but it wasn't enough to beat the San Jose Giants. San Jose won the San Jose Municipal Stadium contest, 3-2. Sheppeard threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. San Jose reliever Park O'Brien snagged the win, upping his record to 1-1. Leonardo Alvarado shouldered the loss. San Jose now sits at 26-21, while Martinez falls to 21-26.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth for San Jose. That's when Russell Coe hit a 2-run double off 22-year old right-handed pitcher Leonardo Alvarado to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
Coe told reporters after the game: "Runs were at a premium, so a good win for us."
