Blaze Turn Back Gulls, 5-3
|
Ventura designated hitter Patrick Ayala had a good game, even if his team did not. The Gulls dropped a 5-3 decision to Bakersfield at Jim Perry Stadium. Ayala was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. Bakersfield reliever R.J. Keiderling picked up the win to move to 2-0. Patrick Talley suffered the loss. T.J. Philpott sewed up the save, his 1st.
Mike Franks helped out the Bakersfield cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a 2-run home run. For the game, the center fielder was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Good win," said Franks. "Maybe some of the whiners in the clubhouse will pipe down for a little while now."
The Blaze, now 26-22, have won 4 in a row.
