Diamonds Rally For 7-6 Win
|
The Pittsburg Diamonds bested the Santa Cruz Cruisers by a score of 7-6, with first baseman Levi Quarles getting the main credit. On the day, Quarles was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Diamonds. Reliever Jayden Thompson picked up the win. His record improves to 4-4. Kelsey Whipple took the loss. Johnny Nolan finished the game for Pittsburg and earned his 5th save.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Jay Cope came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Santa Cruz pitcher Kelsey Whipple, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pittsburg on top, 7-6.
Diamonds manager Phil Edwards wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
The Diamonds sit in last place in the California League North Division with a record of 12-45.
