The inspired effort of Riverside center fielder Nicolas Arzola was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-5, to the Bakersfield Blaze. Arzola went 3-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Greg Heald was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. The last-place Red Wave have lost 20 consecutive games.
Had Martin De Nava not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, De Nava hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Blaze.
