Nuts Win Squeaker, 4-3, Over Giants
|
The home team gave the crowd some walk-off drama.
The San Jose Giants got a sterling performance from pitcher Gangsheng Mei, but the Modesto Nuts still prevailed, 4-3. Mei threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Modesto sits at 5-3.
The Nuts were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 24-year old third baseman Nils Harvey landed a big blow. He turned a 2-2 changeup from Shawn Charles into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the John Thurman Field denizens into a frenzy and sent the Nuts home with a thrilling 4-3 win.
"It's a thrill to get that kind of win," Harvey said.
