Giants Curb Red Wave, 6-4
|
San Jose picked up a win at San Jose Municipal Stadium, bumping off the Riverside Red Wave, 6-4. Pitcher Rodney Luyster was a major reason the Giants emerged victorious. Luyster, now 12-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Dale Aschwanden finished to wrap up his 13th save.
Ricky Castro took E.J. Newberg deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Giants on top, 2-0. In all, Castro had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Glad to get this win," said Luyster. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
San Jose is now 55-49, Riverside 25-79.
