The San Jose Giants picked up a win at Gulls Ballpark, knocking off the Ventura Gulls, 4-2. On the mound for San Jose was right-hander Vincente Sanchez. He played a key role in the triumph. Getting the save was Julio Enrique Maldonado, his 16th. With the win over Ventura, the Giants improved to 59-46.

Miguel Batista had a direct impact on the outcome. Batista contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put San Jose up, 2-1.

"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said San Jose skipper Dylan D'Onofrio.
