Despite the rain, the fans at Jim Perry Stadium enjoyed a good ballgame.
The Bakersfield Blaze beat the San Bernardino Stampede, 4-3. Bakersfield pitcher and San Juan, Puerto Rico, native Jeronimo Pérez led the way. By defeating San Bernardino, the third-place Blaze improved to 61-53.
The Blaze got a big at-bat from first baseman Marq Cobbs. For the game, Cobbs was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 17th home run of the season gave Bakersfield a 3-2 lead.
"I had a good game plan," said Pérez. "I made my pitches." His manager concurred. "It was all there," Brian O'Kray said, "the velocity, the sharpness of his pitches."
