Matthews Steals Spotlight, But Last Laugh Belongs to Napa
The Napa Silverados outlasted Leroy Matthews and the High Desert Mavericks, 9-8. Matthews was impressive in the loss. The High Desert left fielder was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Duane Rodriguez, now 3-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. Dylan Hammond recorded the save for Napa, his 22nd of the season.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Salvador Blanca came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing High Desert pitcher Maddox Gardner, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Napa on top, 9-8.

"This game had a little bit of everything," said Blanca.

The victory gives the Silverados a record of 71-45.
