Rawhide Come Up Short at San Jose, 5-4
The San Jose Giants knocked off the Visalia Rawhide, 5-4, in California League action at San Jose Municipal Stadium. San Jose pitcher and Guanica, Puerto Rico, native Cristóbal Cruz had an outstanding performance. Cruz picked up the win for San Jose, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. The loss drops the Rawhide to 1-1.

Brian Engen had a big 2-run home run for the Giants in the bottom of the third inning. With San Jose leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Tyrone Hogan and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Giants on top, 3-0.

"We had a good game plan," Cruz said, "and we were able to execute it."
