Though the conditions were not ideal, the Lynchburg Hillcats and Cocoa Flyers came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
The Lynchburg Hillcats pinned a convincing loss on the Cocoa Flyers, 16-1, at Calvin Falwell Field. Fredy Hernández was a main factor in the win. He was 4 for 6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 8 for Lynchburg. Alfredo Olmedo got the win, improving to 3-2. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2.
With Lynchburg leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Hernández hit a run-scoring single off Cocoa hurler Roger Chavez. It was the 18th hit of the season for Hernández and put his team ahead, 3-1.
Cocoa manager Josh Baker called the blowout loss "not what I expected when I rolled out of bed this morning."
Lynchburg is 6th in the East Coast League Mideast Division with a record of 16-15.
