Mariners Handle Tarpons, 5-2

The exploits of left fielder Daniel Alcantara, who is tied for 4th in the ECL in RBI with 28, helped the Virginia Beach Mariners defeat the Tampa Tarpons, 5-2. Alcantara was 3 for 4 with 3 singles. Emmery Casal picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-0. Terrance Varner was tagged with the loss. Yordis Capellan was credited with the save for Virginia Beach, his 3rd of the season.
Devern González went 1 for 3 with a double for Virginia Beach. The 24-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Terrance Varner. It was his 25th RBI of the season.
"A great game, a great day," said Alcantara about the win. "I can't complain."
The 6th-place Mariners sport a record of 16-20.
