Mariners Go Down to Defeat, 8-6
The Lynchburg Hillcats topped the Virginia Beach Mariners, 8-6, in East Coast League action at Calvin Falwell Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Lynchburg catcher Valentín Reyes. Josh Burton snagged the win in relief. In 1.1 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits. He's now 2-1 on the season. Lynchburg is now 10-28, Virginia Beach 17-21.

Lynchburg second baseman Justin Gussler contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a curveball into right field for a 2-run single. It was his 27th hit of the season and put the Hillcats ahead, 2-0.

Hillcats manager Jon Hundley wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
