Mudcats Suffer 4-2 Setback
|
The Carolina Mudcats got a sterling performance from pitcher Anthony Rose, but the Virginia Beach Mariners still prevailed, 4-2. Rose threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Virginia Beach reliever Jerry Czene picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Orlando Marte was saddled with the loss. Virginia Beach now has a 4-game win streak.
Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of A.J. Montoya to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Mariners on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"That was your kind of game, if you like high drama," said Mariners manager Alex Salcedo.
