Virginia Beach Ballpark was host to some action-packed drama.

The timely hitting of Jerry Rian helped the Virginia Beach Mariners take down the Lynchburg Hillcats, 9-8, in 13 innings. Rian went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5 for the Mariners. Aaron Martin picked up the win in relief for Virginia Beach, while Sebastian Hall took the loss.

The defining moment came in the bottom of the 13th for Virginia Beach. That's when Jeramiah Barry hit a run-scoring double off 25-year old right-handed pitcher Sebastian Hall to win the game. The home crowd went wild.

"They tested our mettle," said Rian. "But that's good. It toughens us up."
