Dash Trip Hillcats, 5-4, in Extra Innings
|
The Winston-Salem Dash defeated the Lynchburg Hillcats in 11 innings, 5-4, in part because of left fielder Marc Valenzuela. Valenzuela went 2-3 with a double and 3 walks. He scored 2 times for the Dash. The win was credited to Ted Peterson in relief. His record improves to 2-0. David Sudham took the loss. Drew Holliman earned save number 2 this season.
Oscar Perry drew 2 walks in 2 trips to the plate for Winston-Salem. With one out and the game tied in the top of the 11th inning, Perry had a clutch at-bat. Facing Lynchburg hurler Curt Love, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Dash a 5-4 lead.
"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Brandon Holmes.
Winston-Salem, at 41-24, occupies first place in the East Coast League Mideast Division.
