Hillcats Handle Red Sox, Grab 3-2 Win
|
The Hillcats grabbed a win, 3-2, at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Salem pitcher Lark Enger. Enger went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Curt Love, now 3-1, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. Picking up the save was Stan Pitsch, his 11th.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Ayden Nutt? The 22-year old center fielder Nutt stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put Lynchburg up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
Nutt called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
The Hillcats saw their win-loss record go to 34-36. At the same time, the Red Sox fell to 28-42.
