Mariners Take Tight Tilt, 7-5
|
The Virginia Beach Mariners clipped the Florida Fire Frogs, 7-5, in 12 innings at Virginia Beach Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to Virginia Beach pitcher and Sugar Grove, Illinois, native Danny Brand. Virginia Beach reliever Smokey Joe Pearce picked up the win, upping his record to 7-3. Chad Walls absorbed the loss. Virginia Beach now owns a record of 44-31.
Virginia Beach got a clutch hit from Damon Summers. The right fielder launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.
"This joint was rocking," said Summers.
