Pit Spitters Edge Tampa in Pitching Duel
In a well-pitched game between the Traverse City Pit Spitters and the Tampa Tarpons, pitcher Curan Merryman was fantastic. The Traverse City right-hander helped his team secure the win, 1-0. Merryman, now 4-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Nate Godfrey got credit for the save for Traverse City. It was his 6th of the year.

Traverse City used a well-timed hit by Angel Villescaz to capture the win. The center fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Pit Spitters ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"Runs were at a premium," said Traverse City manager Omari Parker.

After today's action, Traverse City sits at 35-39, while Tampa falls to 31-43.
