Traverse City got a terrific performance from pitcher Sandro Mendoza, but it wasn't enough to beat the Salem Red Sox. Salem won the Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium contest, 4-3. Mendoza threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. P.J. Chacon closed the door for Salem, picking up his 11th save of the year. The Red Sox go to 21-60, putting them last in the East Coast League Mideast Division.
Gabe Jack drew 1 walk for Salem. The 23-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring walk off Benjamin Pickering. It was his 15th walk of the season.
"Both teams played hard," said Salem manager Hayden Bassler.
