Red Sox Take Tight Tilt
|
In a low-scoring game between the Salem Red Sox and the Carolina Mudcats, pitcher Clement Smith was the difference-maker. The Salem right-hander was tough as nails in the 3-2 Red Sox win. The winning pitcher was Smith, now 1-2. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5. P.J. Chacon picked up the save, his 13th.
It could have been a different outcome for Salem, had it not been for Eddie Vance, the 23-year old left fielder . Vance contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Salem up, 3-2.
"Do what you're good at," said Salem manager Hayden Bassler. "That's all I ask of the team."
Despite the win, the Red Sox still have a lousy 23-62 record.
