Extra-Inning Win by Mariners Over Pit Spitters
|
The Virginia Beach Mariners picked up a win at Sun Sox Ballpark, downing the Traverse City Pit Spitters, 4-2, in 10 innings. On the mound for Virginia Beach was left-hander Walt Frank, who played a pivotal role in the win. Lucas Geer earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 4-1. Lee Prados earned his 3rd save, after closing out the game.
Virginia Beach used a timely hit from Josh Celorio to get the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Mariners ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Celorio. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
The Mariners, now 59-32, have won 5 in a row.
