Behind a solid performance from third baseman Franklin Bailey, the Virginia Black Bears defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-4. Bailey went 2-4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Black Bears. The winner was R.J. Slaven in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Kevin Lushbaugh took the loss. Prospero González earned the save, his 1st, for the Black Bears.

Bailey had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a full count fastball from Kevin Lushbaugh, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Black Bears a 5-4 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Bailey.

"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Bailey told the Virginia Today.

Virginia goes to 3-4.
