The Peoria Chiefs got a stellar performance from pitcher Chase Haskin, who handcuffed the Ames offense en route to a win, 4-1, at Community Field. Haskin, now 1-0, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Deshawn Sneed nailed down his 2nd save.
The Chiefs got a big at-bat from center fielder Brent Lathrop. For the game, Lathrop went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Peoria a 2-0 lead.
"Chase is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Peoria manager Tony Colon.
After losing, Ames is 2-2.
