The Quad Cities River Bandits topped the South Bend Cubs, 5-4, in Midwest League action at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Quad Cities pitcher and Los Angeles, California, native Neil Loyd. Loyd, now 2-0, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. South Bend, now 3-9, continues its tough start.

Preston Yajnavalkya, the 20-year old center fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Yajnavalkya contributed a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put Quad Cities up, 4-1.
