Sod Poodles Grind Out 2-0 Win
|
Community Field featured a tense pitchers' duel.
In a low-scoring affair between the Ames Sod Poodles and the Quad Cities River Bandits, pitcher Rusty Levandowski was the difference between victory and defeat. The Ames right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-0 Sod Poodles win. Levandowski yielded no runs over 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-0.
Morris Lemaire had a big run-scoring double for the Sod Poodles in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Ames leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Vince Houston and swatted a double to center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Sod Poodles ahead, 2-0.
Ames manager Johnny Majorca praised his team's "businesslike approach."
The win gives Ames a record of 10-8.
