LumberKings Take Down Haymakers, 5-4
|
The Clinton LumberKings did just enough to sneak past the Cedar Rapids Haymakers, 5-4, at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Clinton pitcher François Côté, in particular, had a standout performance. Clinton reliever Emerson Anderson was the winner. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Emmett Giles. The Haymakers, now 7-20, continue their sluggish start.
Clinton used a clutch hit from Kyle Vitale to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the LumberKings ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We found a way to get it done," Vitale said.
