River Bandits Win in Extras, 5-4
|
Thanks in large part to second baseman Rob Watkins, the Quad Cities River Bandits clipped the Dayton Dragons, 5-4, in 14 innings. Watkins went 3-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Quad Cities reliever Jonas Melvin picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Quincy Grant took the loss. The River Bandits, at 18-15, sit in third place in the Midwest League Western Division.
Watkins had a game-changing home run in the top of the 14th. On a first pitch fastball from Josh Downie, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the River Bandits a 5-3 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Watkins.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Dayton manager Jason Quinlan.
