Zaragoza Torches Woolly Mammoths for 5 Hits
After a 5-hit effort to lead Beloit's 14-11 victory over the Westside Woolly Mammoths, right fielder Mercurio Zaragoza told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Single A-level is really something special."

The 24-year-old player earned his accolades at Harry C. Pohlman Field with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Woolly Mammoths.

"His swing is getting there," said Snappers skipper Lawrence Crocker, who spoke glowingly of Zaragoza after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Mercurio did that to perfection."

Mercurio Zaragoza hit a two-run home run off Jaimes Jackson in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Grant Rose in the 7th and doubled in the 8th.

This year, Zaragoza has 5 home runs and a .387 batting average.
