The Great Lakes Loons got a strong performance from pitcher Cris Vega, who stymied the South Bend offense en route to a win, 5-1, at Dow Diamond. The winning pitcher was Vega, now 1-0. He tossed 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 7. Great Lakes has a record of 24-19, placing them third in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

The Loons got a big at-bat from third baseman Stu Gully. For the game, Gully went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Great Lakes a 3-1 lead.
