Late Magic Gets South Bend 3-1 Win
|
The Lansing Lugnuts got a superb performance from pitcher Alfonso Clay, but the South Bend Cubs still won the game, 3-1. Clay threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. Their 19-27 record puts the Cubs 7th in the Midwest League Eastern Division.
South Bend took a 3-1 lead on Alexander Thorsell's 7th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Thorsell hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Lansing pitcher Newt Miller visibly frustrated.
Thorsell said his team "played with focus."
