In a low-scoring game between Ames and Westside, pitcher Rocky Ploetz was excellent. The Ames right-hander helped his team knock off the Woolly Mammoths, 2-0. M.J. Prosperi saved it for Ames. The win for the Sod Poodles raised their record to 29-24.
The Sod Poodles got a lift from catcher Mancini Parker, who in the bottom of the fifth stroked a 0-1 circle change into left-center for a run-scoring double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Sod Poodles ahead, 1-0.
"I found a nice groove out there," said Ploetz.
