Dock Spiders Win Nail-Biter
|
The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders wiggled past the Great Lakes Loons, 3-2, at Dow Diamond. The win was highlighted by the performance of Fond du Lac pitcher Steve Clampitt. Fond du Lac reliever Torey Brown picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Abe Rossi was saddled with the loss. The Dock Spiders are now 33-22, while the Loons fall to 30-25.
Fond du Lac relied on the hitting of Miguel Angel Martines to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Dock Spiders on top, 3-2. For the game, Martines had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
During his postgame press conference, Dock Spiders manager Carlos Rocha told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
