Jourdain Socks It to Muskies, Cracks 5 Hits
|
5 hits in a game has always been a big milestone in baseball -- 5 hits in a game gets a player's name in the record book, win or lose. Dionte Jourdain got his name recorded today, but the Madison Muskies picked up the win at Muskies Ballpark, topping the Dayton Dragons, 7-6.
"He bushwhacked us," said winning manager Aaron Cox. "We were lucky to come out ahead."
Jourdain spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone.
"I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the second baseman said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track."
Dionte Jourdain singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Rey Pérez in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Jourdain is hitting .251 so far this season with 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 46 hits including 4 home runs, 15 walks and .318 OBP.
