Visiting Gulls Beat Clippers, 5-3
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Ventura Gulls and Martinez Clippers.
Ventura Gulls starter Akira Stevens pitched effectively against the Martinez Clippers at Recreation Park. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 5-3 win. In 5.2 innings, Stevens surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Delwyn Johnson earned the save, his 1st, for the Gulls.
José Novo, the 24-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Novo contributed a run-scoring hit-by-pitch in the top of the eighth inning to put Ventura up, 3-1.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Stevens.
Now 4-6, the Clippers have gotten off to a poor start.
